Using Lingke Ultrasonic Welding of Non-woven Materials

Non-woven materials consist of individual fibers or continuous filaments (fibres of infinite length), forming a loose cohesion. Non-woven materials with thermoplastic components (thermoformable plastics) can be ultrasonically welded using Lingke. The plastic part of the material is heated and melted by Lingke ultrasonics, and the non-woven material can be connected to each other (welded) without glue.

What does it apply to?
Additive-free non-woven material joining is ideal for the hygiene sector, medical technology as well as cosmetics and care products.

Lingke ultrasonic welding is used for:

• Laminating different layers together (e.g. diapers)
• Introduction of embossed structures (e.g. cotton pads)
• Separation and missed marginal areas (e.g. disposable washing gloves)
• Punch holes for web material (e.g. filter material)

How to work?

Ultrasonic waves are generated in a generator and converted into mechanical vibrations by a transducer. It is introduced into the material by the welding horn. Frequencies of 20 to 35 kHz and amplitudes of 10 to 50 μm are common. Plastic parts are stimulated, heated and melted. The actual welding process is fast: Rotating tools such as the counter roll can process up to 800 m of non-woven material per minute. The counter roll serves as a base and has an individual surface structure for precise concentration of the ultrasonic energy. In this way, precise welding, pressing or cutting effects can be achieved.

A constant distance between the material to be machined and the tool is important for best results. This is guaranteed by precise control technology. It ensures that the distance remains constant even if the welding tool changes due to the heat generated.
